a cellar in 14th century old-town walls becomes a venue and exhibition room. rather than rebuild, the task was to “furnish”. the dominating elements in the main room are the large table and linear shelves. large slabs of glass, in the color of empty wine bottles, display “windows” in which individual bottles can be set in scene and moved around. colors of warm wood and bottles, and browns. a rusty iron slab runs along one wall. the slab, too, has windows cut out, making the wall that comes into view and the bottles in the windows seem like artwork. on the opposite wall there is a handrail made of wine cork. the original stairs were elongated and linear wooden stairs placed on top. the artist manfred alois mayr made the quaint handrail. he plays with the contrast of hard and soft materials: simple wine corks become a nifty detail.
