The project intention was to reuse an old Saracen trullo – a typical rural building found in Ostuni – and to enlarge it so as to triple the existing surface and obtain at least four bedrooms, without overhanging old structures, neither upsetting relationship existing between landscape and architecture, solids and voids. So, the new structure connects to the older one such as an organic consummation, through which increase the value of some particular details, otherwise barely visible.

For this reason, the language of the new architecture is neutral and regular, like a hinge between old and new structures, and the volume is slightly recessed and lowered, with voids and wide windows towards old walls. Continuity between materials and colors of inner and external surfaces and paths, conversely, reduces the transition from old to new. Inside, mortar coats floors and walls unify the interior and reflect the southern daylight that enters. Interior design is characterized by minimal furniture and locally crafted objects, to exalt the rustic atmosphere and the original features of the place.
