Villaggio Santa Elisabetta Nursing Home

Varna

Villaggio Santa Elisabetta is a new nursing home under design between Bressanone and Varna in northern Italy, also serving nearby Luson. Developed by Pinearq with Cooprogetti and Solarraum, the project focuses on five pillars of sustainability: environmental, energy, social, managerial, and economic.

Blending into its low-rise residential surroundings, the design creates a village-like layout of small buildings and shared courtyards. At its heart is a central plaza with access to a day centre, encouraging strong connections with the local community. A multi-story building above the day centre will house self-sufficient senior apartments.

The project follows the KDA (Kuratorium Deutsche Altershilfe) principles—supporting privacy, community, and social integration. This modern "fifth-generation" model promotes both independence and care, with flexible spaces that can quickly adapt in case of health emergencies.
